This week in science

This week, we watched a Bill Nye movie on discoveries about DNA. We learned about scientists and discoveries. This helped because got to see how really good scientists did experiments. We did this for two days and than we got the DNA results. We matched the DNA strands and mine matched. That means that everybody found out that I "stole"m it. This was pretty realistic. Then we learned about cell reproduction. We took notes on that, and answered questions on the reading we did. We also learned about photosynthesis and cell reproduction.

DNA and cells

This week we went over the different types of cells. We also learned how to make a formula to put the DNA from our cheeks into. It is called lysis. We are trying to find out who stole Mr.Finley's moon rock. All that we found was a hair. We have to compare the hair's DNA to some suspects cheek DNA in the room. This can really help us to see how people solve crimes. We also did a simulation on the computer on how to test DNA. We did this so that we can compare it to the hair and the criminal.

$iEnCe

This week on Monday we talked about our graphs. We talked about the growth parameter and the population. We did this because we need t know what we are comparing. on Tuesday we learned how to write out explanations. We write explanations so that we can understand what we are learning. On Wenesday we learned the different concepts for each of the cells organels. We know the organals, but we need to know what they do. On Thursday we learned about the cells again. On Friday we started learning about DNA. This stands for Dioxyribose Nucleic Acid. We are learning this because it relates to the cells DNA that is conained in the nucleus.

Science class

This week in science we had a quiz on Monday on food and bacteria. On Tuesday we learned about the different parts of a cell, like the nucuelus, ER, golgi aparatus, mitochondria, and lycosomes. On Wenesday we labled the cell on the smart board again and then we labled the parts on a real cell. I think we are doing this because we are looking at cells and thinking that they are bacteria. We also learned about uni cells and multi cells. Soon we are going to have to know about what the cell parts do.

This week in science

This week, (from 11/17 to 11/20 we learned about the bacteria growth. We forgot to count the boxes in the petri dish, so we couldn't compare. We than got a mini simulation about Truman and Jackson middle school. They asked us if Truman was better than Jackson in science. The problem was that they gave us misleading information. The information wasn't enough that they gave us. We did this to show how we couldn't compare any information by not counting the boxes in the petri dish. We also learned about graphing. The graphs have the independant variable on the x-axis, and on the y-axis, it is the dependant variable. That can help us compare. Then we also got to do a simulation on the computer. That compared the bacteria growth and the initial population. It showed how the bacteria grew as time went by. Now we have to graph the information. I think that Mr.Finley made us do this to show how we have to keep all of our data. We learned how to compare bacteria growth, and time. Next time we do an experiment, we have to keep track of all of our data.
